Port Louis/New Delhi, Feb. 22 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be travelling to Mauritius next month to attend the 57th anniversary of independence of that nation as Guest of Honour on March 12.

Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam told Parliament on Friday that Prime Minister Modi will be the guest of honour for the celebrations.

"It is a great pleasure to announce that following my invitation, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, has kindly accepted to be the guest of honour. It is a singular privilege for our country. He does us this honor despite his extremely busy agenda," the Mauritius PM told Parliament.

"It is a testimony of the close relations of our two countries," he added.
