Kolkata, Aug. 14 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the much awaited critical section of East-West Metro, connecting the city's two major railway stations Howrah and Sealdah on August 22, according to Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

"The Prime Minister to inaugurate Sealdah-Esplanade Metro section, Beleghata-Hemanta Mukhopadhayay section, Noapara-Jai Hind ( Biman Bandhar), subway at Howrah Metro Section and flags off trains in these sections on August 22,2025," Vaishnaw said in a letter while inviting his ministerial colleague Sukanta Majumdar.

The inauguration function will be held at the Jessore Road metro station of the Yellow Line in the northern suburbs of the city, according to the letter.
