Aizawl, Sept. 13 -- Ushering in a new era for Mizoram, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 51.38 km Bairabi-Sairang broad-gauge railway line - the state's first-ever rail link - and flagged off trains connecting Aizawl with Delhi, Kolkata, and Guwahati.

The Prime Minister, who is on a two-day visit to three Northeastern states, arrived at Lengpui Airport around 9 a.m. today. Inclement weather prevented him from traveling to the inauguration site, prompting him to launch the railway service virtually from the airport.

He will also lay the foundation stones for various developmental projects.
