Aizawl, Sept. 13 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi today announced that the southern border village of Hmawngbuchhuah in Mizoram will be connected to the Indian railway network, creating an additional corridor alongside the Kaladan Multi Modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP) to deepen links between the North East and South-East Asia.

The announcement came as Modi dedicated to the nation the 51.38-km Bairabi-Sairang railway line, which now places Aizawl among the handful of state capitals in the North East to be linked by rail.

The Prime Minister had been scheduled to inaugurate the Rs 8,071 crore project at a public function in Aizawl's Lammual ground.
