New Delhi, Jan. 6 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday highlighted the commissioning of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd's (HPCL) Residue Upgradation Facility (RUF) at the Visakh Refinery as a major step towards strengthening India's energy security and achieving self-reliance in the sector.

"This state-of-the-art facility adds momentum to our efforts towards boosting energy security, thus becoming Aatmanirbhar in this sector," PM Modi said in a post on X while responding to a post by Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.

The Prime Minister underlined the government's focus on reducing import dependence and enhancing domestic refining capabilities.
