Gumla, Aug. 6 -- In a major blow to the banned PLFI outfit, its regional commander and Rs 15-lakh bounty holder Martin Kerketa was killed in an encounter with Gumla Police in the forested terrain near Changabari-Bantoli under Kamdara police station limits.

Acting on a tip-off about PLFI rebels planning a major strike, Superintendent of Police, Gumla, directed a joint operation led by SDPO Nazir Akhtar. Personnel from Kamdara SAT and Gumla QRT were part of the team.

A gun battle ensued. In retaliatory fire, Kerketa was shot dead. A 5.76 mm pistol and live cartridges were recovered from the spot.
