New Delhi, Dec. 1 -- A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court challenging the Election Commission of India's (ECI) decision to conduct only a "Special Revision" of electoral rolls in Assam instead of a "Special Intensive Revision" (SIR), which is being carried out in Bihar and 12 other states and union Territories.

The petition has been moved by Mrinal Kumar Choudhury, former president of the Gauhati High Court Bar Association, questioning the ECI's order dated November 17.

According to the plea, the Commission has adopted an arbitrary and discriminatory approach by opting for a lower level of revision in Assam while directing Special Intensive Revisions in Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, U...
