Mumbai, April 24 -- A proposal to set up a centre for the sterilisation of monkeys is under consideration to curb the large-scale nuisance caused by monkeys and apes to orchards and agricultural crops in Konkan, said Forest Minister Ganesh Naik on Thursday.

He was speaking at a meeting chaired by him regarding the problems faced by farmers in Dapoli taluka of Ratnagiri district due to wild animals.

Additional chief secretary of the forest department Milind Mhaiskar, deputy secretary Vivek Hosing, Kolhapur Chief Conservator of Forests (Regional) RM Ramanujan were present on this occasion.
