Sydney, Oct. 10 -- A man has died after the helicopter he was piloting crashed in far northern Australia on Thursday night, Queensland Police Service (QPS) said.
Emergency services in the Australian state of Queensland launched a search and rescue operation around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday night after the helicopter, a Robinson R22, failed to return to a homestead in the small remote area of Yagoona, over 1,700 kilometers northwest of Brisbane in the state's far north region.
The wreckage of the helicopter was located by authorities around 8:30 a.m. on Friday, the QPS said in a statement.
The pilot and sole occupant, a 27-year-old man, was located deceased.
