Saharanpur, Oct. 19 -- A 42-year-old pickup driver, Hamid Ali, was killed after being assaulted by a group of men near the Fandpuri police outpost in the Nakur area of Saharanpur, officials said today.

Hamid Ali, a resident of Kheda Afghan village, was driving his rented pickup vehicle when he had an argument with the occupants of a car over giving way on Thursday night.

Although the initial altercation was settled by bystanders, the youths later stopped Hamid again near the police outpost. Police reports state he was pulled from his vehicle and attacked by the group. The incident took place only about 100 metres from the outpost.
