Manila, June 29 -- The Philippine government has ordered shut down of news organisation 'Rappler', said Nobel Peace Prize laureate and journalist Maria Ressa.

CNN quoted Ressa as saying during the East-West Center's International Media Conference in Honolulu that the Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission (PSEC) has upheld its earlier ruling to revoke the news site's operating license.

She said, "What does this mean? We have existing legal remedies all the way up to the highest court of the land. It is business as usual for us since in our view, this is not immediately executory without court approval."

She pointed out that the team will be appealing this decision "especially since the proceedings were highly irregular."
