Imphal, Dec. 22 -- : The Manipur Petroleum Dealers Fraternity (MPDF) has warned of a complete shutdown of petrol pumps across the state if authorities fail to give protection against threats and unlawful demands from extreme elements. The fraternity has set December 28 as the deadline.
The announcement triggered panic buying on Monday, with long queues seen at several fuel outlets.
Earlier, on December 13, oil depots were closed down to protest an alleged threat.
The MPDF said no concrete response has been received from the state authorities even though a memorandum was submitted to the Governor on December 10 last. The distributors alleged bomb threats and monetary demands by armed persons. Even a grenade was placed inside an oil depot....
