Ranchi, Dec. 24 -- Tribal representatives from different parts of Jharkhand have expressed satisfaction over the State Cabinet's approval of the Panchayat Provisions (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Rules, describing the decision as a significant move towards reinforcing grassroots self-governance.

Kanhu Murmu, Mukhiya of Keradungri Panchayat in East Singhbhum district, said the long-pending demand for implementation of the PESA rules had finally been met.

He said the decision would strengthen self-rule in tribal areas and ensure that villages have a decisive role in matters affecting their lives and resources.
