Kochi, Jan. 6 -- The active participation of people from diverse countries and cultures played a decisive role in transforming Kerala into a global powerhouse of the spice trade from ancient times, experts observed at the International Spice Routes Conference that began here today.
Speaking at the session titled 'Spice Routes: People, Goods and Ideas in Motion' during the three-day conference at the historic Bolgatty Palace, scholars highlighted Kerala's evolution as a major Spice Route hub and a vibrant melting pot of cultures.
They noted that the spice trade not only drove economic growth but also facilitated cultural exchange, knowledge sharing and the movement of ideas across continents.
