Pause erection of border pillars to demarcate Assam & Meghalaya: VPP MP tells Modi

Shillong, Aug. 7 -- Opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) MP from Shillong parliamentary seat, Dr. Ricky Andrew Jones Syngkon, today met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and requested him to keep in abeyance the erection of border pillars in five of the six areas where Meghalaya and Assam have signed a border settlement agreement in the first phase.



In a memorandum, Syngkon urged the Prime Minister to direct the Ministry of Home Affairs to "pause the erection of border pillars and any physical demarcation until a more inclusive process is assured. Ensure transparent consultations with all affected communities, including traditional and grassroots institutions."
