Nagpur, Dec. 10 -- Political tensions over municipal elections intensified in the Maharashtra Assembly on Wednesday as Congress MLA Nana Patole demanded the removal of the State Election Commissioner, accusing the Commission of lacking transparency and acting outside the law.

Patole moved a proposal in the Legislative Assembly seeking the Commissioner's dismissal, alleging that the State Election Commission had taken "illegal and arbitrary" decisions.

He objected to recent decisions taken by the SEC, particularly its move to postpone elections in certain municipal corporation wards and municipal council president posts.
