Chandigarh, Aug. 27 -- A major crisis unfolded at the Madhopur Headworks in Pathankot when one of the flood gates collapsed, causing water from the Ranjit Sagar Dam to flow directly into the Ravi River.

The incident has led to severe disruptions, with nearly 50 workers stranded on the Jammu-Lakhanpur side of the headworks.

Rescue operations are underway, with helicopters deployed to evacuate the stranded workers.

Authorities have confirmed that one employee remains missing, and search efforts are ongoing to locate the individual.

According to the Deputy Commissioner of Pathankot, the breach in the flood gate has resulted in an uncontrolled release of water into the Ravi River.
