Kolkata, Nov. 10 -- Former West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee is finally set to be released from jail after spending more than three years in custody in connection with the multi-crore SSC teacher recruitment scam.
A special CBI court ordered Chatterjee's release today. Once the court's documents reach the Chief Judicial Officer, there will be no further legal obstacle to his freedom.
Chatterjee, who has been suffering from multiple health issues, is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital near the EM Bypass in Kolkata.
He attended Monday's court proceedings virtually from the hospital. Witnesses said he was seen smiling upon hearing the release order.
