New Delhi, Aug. 22 -- The National University of Disability Studies and Rehabilitation Sciences (UDSRS) is yet to open despite being conceived nearly a decade ago.

Proposed in Kamrup, Assam, the university was formed to educate people on advanced disability and strengthen rehabilitation service across the country.

A parliamentary standing committee has urged the Centre to expedite the long-pending project, which was first announced in 2015-16.

The panel, headed by MP PC Mohan in Lok Sabha emphasised the "urgent need" to expedite the univeristy's establishment, citing its critical role in advancing education, research, and rehabilitation services for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs).
