Kalka/Shimla, Dec. 29 -- : The iconic Kalka-Shimla railway, a UNESCO World Heritage mountain rail line, is set for a major technological upgrade following the successful speed and safety trials of modern Panoramic Vistadome coaches. The trials mark a significant step towards faster and more comfortable journeys for tourists on the narrow-gauge heritage route.
The North Railway Division Station Officer conducted the final trial of the red-coloured Panoramic Vistadome coach on Sunday, testing its performance at a speed of 28 kmph on sharply curved sections of the mountainous track. The trial included an additional load of nearly two tonnes to assess stability, braking efficiency, and load-bearing capacity during steep climbs.
