Panna (MP), Sept. 11 -- The number of tigers is rapidly increasing in the Panna Tiger Reserve and as a direct consequence the Park's 576 square km core area is proving incapable of providing suitable residence for all the carnivores born there.

In such a situation, young and aged tigers are exiting the core area and entering the surrounding 1,021.97 sq km buffer zone forest. At this juncture, the greatest challenge for the Reserve administration is monitoring and providing protection to these animals who are seeking their own territory.

About one-and-a-half decades back, the forests of Panna were devoid of tigers. In 2009, a Tiger Restoration Scheme commenced here and proved to be a miraculous success.
