Dharamshala, Nov. 27 -- Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday informed the Assembly that Panchayat elections in Himachal Pradesh will be held once the Disaster Management Act is withdrawn from the state.

Replying to the Rule-67 discussion on the adjournment motion over the delay in Panchayat polls, the Chief Minister said the Act is now fully enforced and its provisions are also applicable to the State Election Commission.

Sukhu said the government is currently undertaking the restructuring and delimitation of Panchayats, and the process must be completed before elections are conducted. He added that the Disaster Management Act empowers the state to issue binding directions overriding all other laws.
