Kochi, July 6 -- The Kerala Tourism Department has landed in serious trouble following a Right to Information (RTI) revelation that it had invited alleged Pakistani spy Ms. Jyoti Malhotra for promotional purposes.
This has triggered a controversy over a suspected espionage network backed by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) operating in Kerala.
Responding to the controversy, State Tourism Minister P.A. Mohammad Riyas said, "Does anyone think someone would knowingly invite a spy ?"
He emphasized that espionage is a serious issue and urged media outlets to present verified facts. He also questioned whether the media had sought official responses before reporting the story and criticized attempts to politicise the issue.
