New Delhi, April 24 -- India on Thursday night formally informed Pakistan about the decision to hold in abeyance the Indus Waters Treaty with immediate effect, in the aftermath of the Pahalgam massacre of 26 tourists by Pakistan-linked terrorists.
"The obligation to honour a treaty in good faith is fundamental to a treaty. However, what we have seen instead is sustained cross-border terrorism by Pakistan targeting the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir," reads the letter sent by Debashree Mukherjee, Secretary of the Jal Shakti Ministry, to Syed Ali Murtaza, Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources, Pakistan.
