Kolkata, Aug. 15 -- Padma Shri medal and many valuable mementoes have been missing after a daring burglary in the house of India famed swimmer Bula Chowdhury, the first Indian woman to have crossed the English Channel twice in the last century.

Official sources said the unidentified taking advantage of the empty house in the Hoofgly's Hindmotor took away many valuable mementoes, including Padma Shri award, President's award, many medals, and household goods and bathroom fittings.

The 55-year-old India famed swimmer, both in short and long distance, broke down after finding her valued awards missing from her cupboard when she went after hearing her house was burgled from the backdoor.
