Chandigarh, Dec. 23 -- : Punjab Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development Dr Baljit Kaur on Tuesday said that the state government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, remains firmly committed to making women in the state self-reliant and empowered.

Taking a significant step in this direction, the Punjab government has so far provided financial assistance amounting to over Rs 895 crore to widowed and dependent women, she said in a statement.
