Srinagar, Oct. 1 -- Over a dozen spectators were briefly detained and later released after counselling for allegedly not standing during the National Anthem at the final of the J&K Police Martyrs' Memorial Football Tournament in Srinagar last evening, officials said.
The Lieutenant Governor attended the event as the Chief Guest, with the anthem played live by a band.
Officials confirmed that the spectators were detained specifically for failing to stand during the National Anthem. They were subsequently counselled and allowed to go, with an officer stating that no charges were filed.
The detained individuals later claimed that low volume in parts of the stadium caused confusion, asserting they had no intention to show disrespect.
