Lucknow, Dec. 4 -- A day after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the setting up of detention centres for foreign infiltrators detected during verification drives, the BJP on Thursday claimed that over 50,000 Bangladeshis and Rohingyas are staying illegally in Lucknow.
During a 2019 survey, the UP government had acknowledged the presence of around one million foreign infiltrators in the state, particularly in Noida, Ghaziabad, and Lucknow. The BJP, however, claimed that its workers in Lucknow have identified approximately 50,000 illegal residents. To monitor the situation, ward-level teams have been formed across the city to check tenants and slum dwellers.
