Abuja, Aug. 18 -- More than 40 people are missing after a boat capsized in Sokoto, a northwestern state in Nigeria, officials said today.

At least 10 people were rescued and the resuce operation is on to search for missing 40 people. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) deployed its response team to support ongoing rescue operations following the mishap.

According to NEMA, the boat was carrying over 50 passengers to Goronyo Market when it capsized.
