Lucknow, May 19 -- In a major step toward putting border villages of Uttar Pradesh on the tourism map, the Department of Tourism will develop 35 villages across seven border districts as designated 'Tourist Villages'.

This is aimed at generating employment in rural areas while showcasing the unique culture, traditions, cuisine, attire and biodiversity of these regions to both domestic and international tourists.

Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh said that villages in Maharajganj, Siddharth Nagar, Shravasti, Balrampur, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri and Pilibhit have been selected for the project.
