New Delhi, March 18 -- The Election Commission of India has deployed more than 25 lakh personnel to conduct upcoming Assembly elections across four states and one union Territory, aiming to ensure "violence-free and inducement-free" polling, the poll panel said in a press note on Wednesday.
The poll panel had on March 15 announced the schedule for elections in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Puducherry, along with bypolls in six other states. According to the Commission, over 17.4 crore voters are eligible to cast their ballots in these elections, translating to roughly one election official for every 70 electors.
