Shillong, Sept. 10 -- Meghalaya has reported over 200 cases of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) in the past two years, State Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dr. Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh told the assembly today.

Replying to queries asked by opposition Trinamool Congress (TMC) legislator Miani Dalbot Shira during the Question Hour, Lyngdoh said 89 cases were detected in 2023-2024 and 147 cases in 2024-2025.

The health minister said that vaccination is key to preventing JE, and urged all members of the House to encourage citizens to take vaccination.

The minister assured that the government is working hard to combat JE and is taking steps to enhance surveillance, testing, and awareness.
