Kolkata, Oct. 3 -- Booth-level officers (BLOs) in more than 2,000 polling booths across various districts of West Bengal are likely to be replaced soon after the Chief Electoral Officer's (CEO) office detected widespread violations of the Election Commission of India's (ECI) guidelines for such appointments.
According to officials, the anomalies were discovered during a review ahead of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, scheduled to begin shortly.
The irregularities primarily involve the appointment of contractual staff as BLOs, even in cases where eligible permanent government employees and teachers in state-run schools were available, a clear breach of the rules set by the ECI.
