New Delhi, July 24 -- At least 17,913 trees have been either felled or transplanted to make way for the ambitious Dehradun-Delhi Access Controlled Highway, which is slated for completion by October 2025, the government has said.

The project, estimated to cost Rs 11,868.6 crore, will create a state-of-the-art route connecting Delhi and Dehradun with vital infrastructure features like underpasses, elevated roads, and a three-lane tunnel at Dehradun's Datkali.

To make up for the environment loss, compensatory afforestation efforts are underway across 157.2 hectares of land with an allocated budget of Rs 22.05 crore. Additionally, 50,600 avenue trees are being planted along the highway, and Rs 40 crore has been earmarked for eco-restoration ...
