Kochi, Aug. 1 -- A staggering 1.24 lakh traffic violations were recorded in Kochi between April and June 2025, according to a report submitted by the City Police to the High Court highlighting an alarming surge in reckless driving and prompting a major crackdown across Ernakulam district.
Among the 1,24,417 traffic violations, 655 cases involved rash and negligent driving, resulting in fines totaling Rs1.37 crore, sources said.
Between March 21 and April 6, authorities registered 1,257 minor offences involving substance abuse among bus drivers, including 40 cases of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
