Chandigarh, Feb. 7 -- The Bathinda police have initiated legal action against protesters following a series of violent clashes earlier this week. Over 1,500 unidentified farmers have been booked in five separate cases registered across various police stations.

The charges stem from a massive demonstration organized by the Bharatiya Kisan union (Ekta Ugrahan) that led to several skirmishes and the brief detention of a senior police officer by the protesters.

The unrest began on Tuesday when the farmer union mobilized supporters from across the state to gherao the Bathinda Deputy Commissioner's office. The protesters were demanding the immediate release of two farmers who had been arrested earlier during a land dispute in Jeeyund village. ...
