Bhubaneswar, Feb. 18 -- The Odisha State Civil Supplies Corporation (OSCSC) has borrowed Rs 18,830.37 crore from various banks in the current Kharif season to procure paddy from farmers across Odisha, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra informed the State Assembly on Wednesday.
Replying to a question from Sarada Prasan Jena (BJD), the Minister said that the Food Corporation of India (FCI) is yet to pay around Rs 1,067 crore to the OSCSC towards the cost of paddy procurement for the period from 2009-10 to 2023-24.
He stated that the state government is in touch with the FCI for clearance of the arrears and added that the dues are being released in phases.
