New York, Sept. 2 -- Naomi Osaka powered past Coco Gauff 6-3, 6-2 to reach the US Open women's singles quarterfinals, spoiling the American's run in front of a home crowd.
Unforced errors and service struggles plagued Gauff on center court, while Osaka, a four-timeGrand Slam champion, impressed with her controlled aggression and relentless shot-making on Monday.
"I just really wanted an opportunity to come out here and play," Osaka said. "This is my favorite court in the world, and it means so much to me to be back here."The 27-year-old Japanese now faces No. 11 seed Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic.
