Bhubaneswar, Dec. 1 -- The Odisha Assembly witnessed a dramatic walkout by opposition Congress and BJD on Monday after Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida dismissed allegations that the state government was politically motivated to undermine the Mission Shakti program, originally launched to empower women.

During a debate on an adjournment motion regarding the assault on the daughter of a Self-Help Group (SHG) member for failing to repay a loan, opposition members accused the government of lacking commitment to Mission Shakti.

They claimed that support staff salaries have remained unpaid since December 2024 and suggested a conspiracy to rebrand the program.
