Aizawl, Aug. 27 -- The Mizoram Legislative Assembly today adopted a resolution to extend the Forest (Conservation) Amendment Act, 2023 (No. 15 of 2023) to the state with effect from 2025, but not without controversy, as the Opposition accused Chief Minister Lalduhoma of reversing his earlier stand.
Environment, forests and climate change minister Lalthansanga moved the motion, citing Article 371G of the Constitution, which requires a resolution of the Assembly for Acts of Parliament concerning land to be applicable in Mizoram.
The resolution pointed out that while the Forest Conservation Act, 1980 already applies to the state, the 2023 amendment needed explicit adoption.
