Thiruvananthapuram, Sept. 17 -- The Congress-led Opposition in the Kerala Legislative Assembly today launched an indefinite Satyagraha demanding the dismissal of police officers involved in the Kunnamkulam custodial torture case, after Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan declined to accept the demand during a discussion on an adjournment motion on the issue.

Leader of the Opposition V D Satheesan alleged that despite being fully aware of recurring incidents of police brutality, the Chief Minister had failed to act and should step down as Home Minister.

He said the shocking CCTV footage of a youth being beaten inside the Kunnamkulam police station was suppressed for two years and came to light only through the Right to Information Act.
