Mumbai, Oct. 11 -- A new political outfit, the Shantidoot Jan Kalyan Party (Peace Messenger Public Welfare Party), was formed here today, with its core demands being the reopening of dovecotes and protecting pigeons.

Announcing the formation of the party, Gurudev Nilesh Chandra described pigeons as "peace messengers".

He said those who protect the "peace messengers" and are committed to public welfare would be fielded as candidates in the upcoming municipal elections.

Nilesh Chandra claimed that concerns about health risks from pigeons are exaggerated, arguing that far fewer people die because of pigeons than from addiction or pest infestations.
