Mumbai, Dec. 13 -- A labourer was killed and another critically injured at Atgaon railway station in Thane district when a portion of an old staircase collapsed during a demolition operation, officials said on Saturday.
The accident occured on Friday evening when workers were dismantling the old ticket house. The adjoining staircase, part of an ageing iron bridge structure, suddenly gave way, trapping two labourers.
Rescue teams worked to free the workers, using a gas cutter to cut through the damaged staircase.
