Bhubaneswar, March 18 -- Onco surgeons at the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital, Bhubaneswar, have successfully conducted a rare and complex surgery to remove a cancer-affected portion of the lung in a 45-year-old woman.

The patient, who had been experiencing persistent symptoms and coughing up blood, was initially misdiagnosed with tuberculosis at another hospital.

Seeking further treatment, she approached the IMS and SUM Hospital, where she was evaluated by the Department of Pulmonary Medicine under Prof. (Dr.) Banani Jena and Prof. (Dr.) Rakhi Ludum.

Upon examination, they diagnosed her condition as lung cancer, following which she was referred to the hospital's Onco Surgery department.
