Thiruvananthapuram, Sept. 3 -- To start off the Onam festivities, Kerala Tourism and Public Works Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas officially switched on the festival lights in the state capital last evening, setting the stage for the grand Onam Week celebrations organised by the state government, which begins today.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will formally inaugurate the state-level celebrations at the Nishagandhi Open Air Auditorium today at 6 pm.
The city's streets, from Kowdiar to Manacaud, will be illuminated with vibrant lights throughout the celebrations, which will run until September 9. The festivities, led by the Tourism Department, will culminate with a cultural procession on the final day.
