Agartala, May 15 -- After ONGC, the state-owned Oil India Ltd has launched the first-ever hydrocarbon exploration in Tripura at Debtamura Hill in Gomati district under India's Hydrocarbon Exploration and Licensing Policy (HELP).
ONGC has been exploring gas in Tripura since 1972. It has drilled over 200 wells so far and currently produces 3.5 million metric standard cubic metres of gas per day in the state. This gas feeds two gas-based power plants, a sizable number of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations for vehicles, and the supply of Pipe Natural Gas (PNG) for cooking in over two lakh kitchens in Agartala.
