Mysuru, Nov. 24 -- A Grade-1 panchayat secretary posted in Varuna, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's constituency, allegedly attempted suicide last week after fears of being transferred following the reopening of an old complaint.

Divya, who has served as the Varuna panchayat secretary for nearly two years, reportedly consumed about 15 tablets, including paracetamol, inside her office on November 20.

She collapsed shortly after and was rushed to a Mysuru hospital, police said.

According to preliminary information, tensions reportedly escalated when another Grade-1 secretary sought Divya's post and was said to have lobbied senior officials for a transfer order in her favour.
