Bhubaneshwar, May 2 -- The Bhitarkanika National Park in Odisha's Kendrapara district will remain out of bounds for three months from 1 May to 31 July for tourists as the mating and nesting season of the saltwater crocodiles has got underway.

The prohibition has been clamped to ensure that the estuarine crocodiles do not get disturbed during the process of their nesting and breeding times by the intrusion of the visitors, said Assistant Chief Conservator (ACF), Bhitarkanika National Park, Manas Das.

The sound of the mechanised boats carrying tourists and forest officials also disturb the crocodiles. Once the reptiles get disturbed during the nesting and breeding period, they become more violent and the majority of crocodiles-attack occurs...
