Bhubaneswar, April 28 -- The Odisha government will cancel ration cards issued to foreign nationals, who have acquired them through illegal means, State Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra said on Monday.

Patra stated that district collectors have been instructed to verify ration cards issued to foreign nationals, particularly those from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Myanmar.

The Minister added that a verification drive would soon be launched to identify foreign nationals who have obtained ration cards and are availing themselves of benefits under the state's Public Distribution System.

After the necessary verifications, these ration cards will be cancelled, Patra said.
