Bhubaneswar, Oct. 22 -- Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today announced a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the much-publicised jobs-for-cash scam involving the police sub-inspector recruitment examination. The decision comes after mounting demands from the Opposition and job aspirants.

The move follows charges of widespread irregularities and corruption, which triggered a statewide uproar. The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) statement noted that the initial Crime Branch investigation revealed that the roots of this corruption may have spread to other states, including Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal, suggesting the involvement of an inter-state organised criminal syndicate.
